Case studies

Real organisations. Real clarity.

Selected work showing how we understand an organisation, simplify its digital processes and give it a professional presence that supports its wider goals.

Featured project

East Grinstead Meads FC

A long-established community football club, founded in 1986 and now running 27 teams for boys and girls. Gro Star designed and built a modern, mobile-first club website that brings fixtures, results, news, policies and partners into one calm, credible home.

The organisation

East Grinstead Meads FC is a friendly, ambitious grassroots club built on a simple belief: football should be about more than the result. It serves a wide community of players, parents, coaches, volunteers and local sponsors, with teams across a broad range of ages and abilities.

A club of that size is, in practice, a small organisation. It has audiences with very different needs, a season-long operating rhythm, governance responsibilities and commercial relationships to look after — all delivered by people giving their time voluntarily. The website had to respect every one of those realities.

The challenge

Information scattered across channels

Fixtures, results, news and club information lived in different places, making it hard for families to find a single, reliable source of truth.

Mostly read on a phone

Parents and players check details at the side of a pitch, not at a desk. Anything slow or fiddly on mobile simply does not get used.

Manual effort for volunteers

Keeping 27 teams' worth of fixtures, reports and announcements up to date placed a repeated admin burden on volunteers.

Sponsors and joiners needed a clear front door

The club needed a credible shop window for partners, and an obvious route for new players and families to get involved.

Our approach

01

Understand how the club actually runs

We started with the club's reality: volunteer time, a season's rhythm, 27 teams and a wide mix of ages using the site. The brief came from how people behave, not from a template.

02

Structure before styling

We mapped the information architecture first — Home, Match Centre, News, Coaches & Volunteers, Club Policies, Sponsors — so every audience has an obvious path and nothing competes for the same space.

03

Design a club identity online

A confident, open visual language built around the club's own colours and photography, with large clear typography and generous space so it reads well on any device.

04

Simplify the running of it

Fixtures, results and news are managed through structured, repeatable patterns rather than hand-built pages, reducing the ongoing effort for volunteers.

05

Hand over with confidence

The club can keep the site current itself, season after season, without needing a developer for everyday updates.

What we built

Interactive match centre

Fixtures and results in one place, filterable by team, with list and month calendar views so anyone can find the right game in seconds.

Linked news and match reports

A structured news hub with match reports and articles, filterable by type and connected to the club's wider social presence.

Clear routes for people

Dedicated areas for coaches and volunteers, plus a prominent Join Us path so new families always know the next step.

Policies and governance front of stage

Club policies are easy to reach and easy to read, supporting the standards a youth club is expected to meet.

A proper sponsor showcase

Headline partners are presented with care on the home page and a dedicated sponsors area, giving the club a credible commercial asset.

Built for discovery

Clean structure, sensible page titles and fast, mobile-first pages so the club is easier to find and easier to trust.

Latest News

Match reports and articles in a single filterable feed, keeping the club's story visible to families, players and partners.

The outcome

The club now has a single, professional digital home. Families can find fixtures and results without hunting; new players have an obvious way to join; volunteers work with structured, repeatable content rather than one-off pages; and sponsors are presented in a setting that reflects the value of their support.

Just as importantly, the site is built to last a season and the next one. It is fast, clear on a phone, straightforward to maintain and consistent with how the club actually operates — a piece of working infrastructure, not a brochure.
